James Garvey has been Organist and Director of Music at Church of the Ascension, Knoxville, Tennessee, since 1990, where he continues to lead a vibrant music program including a regionally acclaimed concert series. He holds degrees from Rice University, where he studied organ with Clyde Holloway and piano with Mary Norris. Upon graduation, he served for five years as the Assistant Organist at St. John's Cathedral in Denver, Colorado. An artist who has played throughout the Southeast, Mr. Garvey has also performed for regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists as well as national conferences of the Association of Anglican Musicians.
