St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newark

A part-time position for an organist is currently available at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newark, Ohio. The job description is as follows:

The Church Organist shall provide appropriate musical accompaniment during worship services and other church programs.

  •  Provide preludes, hymn accompaniment, liturgical accompaniment and choir anthem accompaniment at worship services for two services (an abbreviated Saturday afternoon service in the Chapel on piano and a full traditional Sunday morning service in the Sanctuary with pipe organ and piano).

  •  Serve as organist for single services on Ash Wednesday, 5 further Wednesdays in Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Christmas Eve.

  •  Be present for the regularly scheduled rehearsals of the Covenant Choir on Wednesday evenings during their season of singing, except during times of his/her vacation or for health or weather reasons.

  • Work cooperatively with the Pastor or Choir Director to choose hymns.

  • Work with organ/piano repair technicians and chain of command in reporting repair issues to ensure pipe organ and piano are properly maintained. The organ is a Wicks pipe organ, originally built in 1951, but recently refurbished when a new console was added. 

Salary: $17,000 to $20,000 annually
